Conan the Barbarian in 2011

Conan the Barbarian (aka Conan the Cimmerian, from the name of his homeland, Cimmeria) is a famous character of heroic fantasy created by American writer Robert E. Howard in 1932 via a series of fantasy stories sold to Weird Tales magazine
Since his debut Conan has been adapted to many other supports from comic book to tv, video game and cinema.

A new Conan movie has been decided with a release set for 2011.

Here's the plot:
"The story revolves around a child, who is sold into slavery and ends up growing into a man seeking revenge against the warlord who massacred his tribe."

Some of you may remember a movie dating back to 1982 starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Conan:

Schwarzenegger's movie was quite good actually.
I hope it this last remake will be as much interesting or even better!

Conan the Barbarian was the greatest movie ever made. I surely hope that a new Conan movie has as much, if not more, heart than the original.

CROMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !

the original was good but why remake it? Just do a brand new freaking movie. I hope they don't mess this one up.

They always screw up remakes. :( I only have hope for this movie because of the modern special effects that will be in it.

Looking forward to this project. Don't screw it up guys. The Fans are watching and waiting. Hire actors, not athletes this time. Follow the stories from Howard's books. Don't mix in charcters from "Krull"! How about Conan fighting "Thak"...right out of the first book! It would be good. Less chatter, more action this time. Do it right and you've got a franchise as hot as "Batman"!
Good Luck...we're counting on you!

Scores of Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans flocked to theaters to see Arnold as Conan. He was good, but not the right choice. Arnold is a muscular guy, but not Conan. Conan according to the authors of his tales is as much as 7' Seven feet tall and as much as 350lbs. The actor who plays Conan must be in great shape, but not as bulky as arnold, as Conan is "panther-like" and smooth in his movements. It must be an actor who is not just interested in a One Time blockbuster, but a trilogy or series of Conan movies, and someone whom the fans have suggested, not who the studios think will draw $$$, because we the fans control your financial future, not you studio execs who really should spend more time listening to the fans and less time losing money from bad decisions!!! Look at Wall Street... Ray Stevenson from ROME and Punisher:War Journal is a great choice. Vin Diesel is not. Dont Ruin This..It wouldn't recover for a century...

Arnold was not Conan?? Are you kidding me??? Conan was NOT 7' tall, and he sure as hell was not 350 lbs he was about 6'4 - 6'6 in the books and he WAS muscular. How can you be a 7' 350 lbs panther???

Arnold was perfect for the part, even his accent worked great. It will be hard to find a good well built actor for the roll. Going with an unknown will be the way to go for the lead. They can add some star power to the supporting cast. I hope this is great, Conan has always been a favorite of mine.

Arnold was a great Conan, I just hope they dont screw it up. A new cConan would be great , but if they nail this. The possibilities are unlimited

Arnold was not Conan? lol. In my mind, Arnold IS Conan. It's a shame he won't be playing the part, because he is and always was perfect for the role. I am sure that someone else can pull it off, but Arnold will always be Conan to me!

If They use the same sound track they will be off to a good start. It was one of the best things about the movie!!

Look at Frank Frazetta's Conan paintings and you can see a similarity between him and Ray Stevenson.
I love the movies but I really would like to see something more true to the stories.
Whom ever they cast had better be very Charismatic because Conan was no dumb savage, he was an intelligent and dangerous leader of men.

Finally a remake!

I think Gerard Butler could pull off Conan no problem. In 300 he was the right size and he has the acting talent to give the character some real grit. Big Arnie gave the impression Conan was just a big dumb nutter when Howard's Conan spoke several languages and was smart enough to command armies. should set the movie when he is king of Aquilonia and fling in some flashbacks to his younger adventures, maybe a pirate tail with the black corsairs. . .yeah . . .everyone likes pirates.

Way to be original guys! What's next, Conan the Destoyer? With so many Conan stories you had to pick the one that's been made already! All I know is the original was perfect so don't screw it up!!!!

Arnold is 6' and at one time as mr. olympian champ body build was at weight of 240 lbs dumbshit. that and in Roberts 23 or so pulp fiction stories only told of Conan being taller then most men and stronger in Hyperboria. he was only above average, for all we know they could be gaints or midgits to us on that planet. Conan had the Biggest WILL to conquer and Crom favored that in him.....Read! there is more to Conan then you think. Every word counts so define the big ones.

Gerard Butler from "300" would be a great Conan...and the soundtrack should be a modern version of the original from 1982. Great soundtrack.

the first conan was great.the second was horrible piece of crap.savage sword and conan saga are full of great stories.conan was thief, warrior, explorer, womanizer, drank a ot.he was not goody two shoes, but would help people at times.he hates magic and wizards.and is not a fast talker.

Arnold was a very cool Conan if you forget a lot of what you read in Howard's short stories, but the true Conan would be somewhat feral in action, sharper in tongue and his accent would have a subtle, cold northerly clarity to it. He was probably a bit leaner and deceivingly quick.

Ray Stevenson is good, but too old to play the this role. It is the story of Conan's beginnings. Ray is 40 something?

Arnold was Conan, but forget about this now. We've been waiting for this for a long time. What's important
is a very good story telling combined with brutal, bloody and very violent sword fighting scenes minus b.s. and massing up the movie by overdoing it
like spiderman 3 or even 2nd conan movie(destroyer)

I agree. A remake is not necessary for a character that has such a rich history.

I don't understand why they have to remake the original top class "Conan".
No one thinks of "re-writing" Shakespeare; or 'redo' any other great book; or "re-paint" Michelangelo.
It all boils down to lazy and unimaginative movie making.

the guy on stargate atlatis-sci fi channel show will play conan -2011.the very tall guy with the beard in the stargate atlantis group 4-main characters.i forget his name and character though....

Ha Ha Ha. Jason Momoa as Conan. Robert E. Howerd is rolling in his grave. Hollywood has no clue.

Ill be saving 12 bucks when that crap comes out. Cant they find some guy with a Barbarian build.

who cares if he cant act just have him lop some heads off.

I think Jason Momoa would play a better Tarzan.

What a mistake... Hey guys pick up a book next time before casting.

maybe his agent can get him in the next Hulk movie..

Anonymous said...

Nope. The new one will be lame. Miscast.

Anonymous said...

Are you guys joking? Have you seen the shots? Momoa got jacked for this movie. He's def a better Conan than the Governator

I absolutely loved the Arnold version. I grew up watching that movie. It will be tough to beat the original. Getting a guy that looks and sounds like a barbarian with barbaric and witty humor would be a good start. Got to get a guy thats abnormally built like Arnold was in the day, not just a jacked actor, like G. Butler, gotta look barely human lol. I would like to see original music remixed a lil. Better gore.

Honestly, there are only 2 ways to make Conan work. First make it a blockbuster of a movie that sticks to the original works of Robert E Howard or start a series of TV shows based on Howards books, each show would run an hour using three different actors to play young, prime and old conan, and do it right. Don't try to put them in any order, the original stories were not in order, it was as if you were sitting in a tavern listening to people talking of the legendary hero Conan, or a scholar telling the stories to princes.
